Driving along the South Coast: waterfalls and folk museum

Fed some horses we passed on the road as we set out driving along the south cost.
First waterfall: Seljalandsfoss.
On the road passed by a farm at the foot of Eyjafjallajökull a glacier topped active volcano.
Second waterfall: Skógafoss. The weather at the top was pretty brutal!
Then Skógar folk museum with great displays and huts recreating life in Iceland over the centuries.
Hung out at Reynisfjara black beach with basalt columns as the sun set
Ate a scrumptious dinner in Kirkjubæjarklaustur village
Made it to our accommodations at Hörgsland Cottages

Aurora Borealis!

We had been chasing it almost every night, using apps that predicted the probability at our location each night and heading out on the road if the odds were good. This night we finally got quite a show.

Geysir and Gullfoss Waterfall

Ate a snack in the early morning hours after chasing the Aurora Borealis, a little sleepy despite the excitement. Then set out to see a few more of Iceland's natural wonders. Relaxed at a thermal bath at Fontana spa (ok that's a stock photo, none of us brought cameras in, but the natural clear hot waters were luxurious). As the sun set, made it to Lax-á Geysir Cottages, a few structures doting an otherwise vast empty terrain.

Þingvellir National Park

Next we headed for Þingvellir (anglicized as Thingvellir), a unique location both geologically and in Iceland's history (the oldest existing parliament in the world first assembled there in 930 AD). We first stopped at lake Þingvallavatn just to the south. Almost got wet adding to my coin collection. Saw a wild sheep! Afterward we drove back to Reykjavik and ate some yummy Fish n' Chips.

Last day, back in Reykjavik

Impressive continental breakfast at Fosshotel Baron before we took a driving tour of Reykjavik.
Then headed the airport; all good things must come to an end.
